After we saw it once at Gail Sorronda, The Little Mermaid continues to inspire the fashion world, and this time we have seen it for Menswear SS15 by Bobby Abley at MAN. This time around we see the likes of Ursula, Sebastian and Ariel printed on Tees and Sweatshirts, and even a cheeky appearance from Ursula’s pet eels- Flotsam and Jetsam!
Well that didn’t take long did it? I knew the McDonald’s inspired accessories from Moschino’s most recent show would make for great street style, but I didn’t expect to see it quite so soon! Here are some of the looks that have been seen in Milan only a few days after that Moschino show that everyone is talking about.
Okay, so we all look forward to the runway shows, but how will the heavy snow that has hit New York effect the street style of the fashion elite across the next few days? Below are a few predictions of what we can expect from street style as it prepares to fight off the bitter NY cold.
Lots of layering
The infamous ‘street style’ at NY fashion week will have to adapt to the colder weather, but don’t expect them to ‘layer up’ in a conventional way. Think oversized woolen coats on top of another coat, a furry vest acting as a unique take on a scarf underneath a blazer or even the doubling up of scarves.
I predict lots of furry Fendi mittens, as well as fur vests, coats, hats.. anything warm and furry to fight off the bitter NY cold and look glamorous whilst doing it.
Making a huge comeback for a great ‘I just threw this on’ look, these will definitely be on show throughout fashion week, especially those with friends at Kenzo who bag early access to their fish inspired sweatshirts, which aren’t actually available to purchase until the end of February.
Over-sized Woolen Coats
It seems obvious, I know, but despite that pinkCeline coat being huge, I actually expect a rainbow oversized woolen coats, too, because wearing that pink coat would be just too obvious, wouldn’t it?
Maybe this is a British thing, but it wouldn’t surprise me if somebody turned up in a pair of these, especially after the brand has been given it’s own runway slot later on in the month for London Fashion Week. It is snowing, surely somebody will dress practically for the event?
New Season Loubs
For those NY fashion forward ladies who refuse to let the snow come between them and looking good in a pair of glossy new Louboutins. We’re likely to see the updated Pigalle, Princess or even the Louis sneaker on show over the next few days (just think glitter, pastels and vibrant hues).
A few months back I wrote a blog on how to wear sunny yellow hues over the AW period, but I’ve recently discovered (thanks to some gorgeous birthday gifts) that mixing different shades of yellow together also gives a great glow to an outfit. In fact, both of these pieces will transition brilliantly into Spring and I can see this bright yellow bag becoming my ‘go to’ handbag for months to come!
Gone are the days when it was only acceptable for a girl to throw on her boyfriend’s sweater for lazy days around the house, because now a girl can buy an oversized sweater all for herself, wearing it whenever she likes. Okay, so it doesn’t have to be ‘unisex’, you can buy oversized sweaters for women too, but streetwear brands like Kenzo, Patta and Boy London have all echoed that it’s okay for us women to throw on a sweatshirt and look cool; we can now achieve effortless street style by throwing on a sweatshirt (high street or designer) with a pair of rolled up boyfriend jeans and its acceptable. Women are buying sweaters from streetwear brands from the men’s department in order to pull off that casual streetwear vibe, but that obviously doesn’t mean you can’t add a feminine touch or two! Think clashing prints, statement necklaces, a pop of collar underneath or coordinate colours with one of this season’s must have skirt styles!
After eyeing that pretty blue necklace in Accessorize I felt I needed a few new bits of jewellery, and instead of paying £15 for that one necklace I actually ended up paying less than this in Primark for five pretty pieces! Honestly though, my bank balance is lucky I spent such a little amount, because Primark had such nice things in that I actually picked up lots of different items (blue woolen coats, pretty spring tee’s, scarves, disco pants..) but I wisely talked myself out of buying so much, because after all, I did only go in for jewellery!
So, below are the bits I bought…
Finally got my hands on some dainty little midi rings for only £1.50 for a pack of 4!
Another statement necklace to add to my collection, it’ll look great with knits but I especially love the fact that if I wear it with a blouse and tuck it under the collar it will give the illusion of a cool brooch!
I was drawn to the colours of this pretty blue bracelet set, and for only £2, why not?
I thought this was really pretty and the floral design will really add a feminine, Spring/Summer touch to a basic AW knit!
And the fifth item is this embellished hat (okay, so it isn’t jewellery, but it was only a Pound!!) I’m not sure if it really suits me, but the Cara Delevingne hat trend has caught up with me, and I really wanted to try it out!
So, there we have it 5 items for around £13, which is why everyone deep down has a soft spot for Primark 😉
So I’m assuming we all remember that sweater (and coat, pants, blouses..) at Kenzo’s AW13 show that was emblazoned with their ‘Lotus Eye’ print?
Well, the thing about Kenzo is that creating such casual, not so serious, pieces has made it one of the few collections that bloggers not only admire, but actually go out and purchase (despite the price tag)! Kenzo doesn’t redefine fashion with extravagant designs and silhouettes, but keeps it simple enough that their collection becomes relatable and eventually represents that ‘street style’ we see in magazines!
You see, I WANT that lotus print sweater (and the tiger one…), because I can imagine it paired with items I already have in my wardrobe! I also WANT that matching ‘Petal’ print tee and pant- it’s pretty and simple , but different enough for me to stand out from the crowd! Don’t get me wrong, I also want most things I see across runways (that Celine coat, those heavily embellished dresses at D&G…) but Kenzo is just so much more relatable!
This got me thinking though, what will their standout piece be for SS14? This season it was the lotus eye sweater… but what about next season?
Well, I’ve had a look and I’ve made my predictions…
White may seem a bit scary for those of you who think this color is best kept for the warmer months, sure, its fresh and crisp and brightens up an outfit but what about during the AW months? White can actually be worn in a really cozy way, but if you’re still not convinced, read on for my top five ways to wear whites this winter!
White mixed with cool grey shades can be an underestimated color combo, but actually gives a very soft and feminine feel to a look! These colors are at their best when textures like soft cashmere and silks are mixed together- think a soft, white, cashmere sweater over the top of a knee length, cool grey, silk slip or even a gray vinyl skirt? Absolutely gorgeous, and great for work or play, too! You might even decide to incorporate grays into your look by adding a pair of grey ankle boots or a squashy clutch, as seen at Celine, to dress up the look even more!
It’s no secret that pastels are one of my favorite trends this season, adding a feminine, but playful, charm to any ensemble! It may be that you go simple when adding such colors (think a pair of ice blue cocktail earrings against a soft white sweater or silk blouse) or you may choose to go a bit bolder (how about a silk, mint green blouse against a silky soft, white pencil skirt?), but whatever way you decide to incorporate pastel shades it is safe to say that a little pop of color can go a long way in bringing an outfit to life!
The Metallic Edge
Well, mainly silver, but a little gold or even metallic burgundy shades can also work wonders! Personally I do think silver looks a little better than gold as it simulates that icy feeling we get during the colder months (and look a lot classier), but then adding a pointed, platformed gold shoe to a look can also be a great touch to a white dress! This way of wearing white is quite well suited to the more dressier of occasions, and what better way to start that by trying it out during the best party season of AW-Christmas!! One tip though, keep metallic touches to a minimum, because too much and it may begin to look a little tacky- try adding it through jewelry, clutch bags or shoes for a classier look!
Navy and white contrast against each other brilliantly and definitely add an element of class to any look. Navy is such a strong, bold color that it offsets well against the sharp, crisp edge of white. This is great for work attire (although this doesn’t mean it is not as versatile as the other color combo’s), try teaming a fitted white dress with a navy pea coat or a pair of smart white trousers with a silky navy shirt or sweater!
And, of course, we all know the classic black and white combo, so if you’re not bold enough to try the other looks then at least give this one a try! And this requires the most minimal effort, because you can grab a monochrome print in dresses, sweaters, pants, anything really!
So you have no excuses not to try white this season, in fact, you’ve probably already tried it out without even realizing, but don’t let this deter you from further experimentation!
