Top 5 Shoe Trends for SS18

White Trainers
Whether you go for a pair of classic Vans or opt for the new chunkier style (designed by the likes of Yeezy and Balenciaga), trainers as everyday wear has blown up in the fashion industry in recent years and they are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Gone are the days when they could only be worn with sportswear-and white trainers for summer can really switch up an outfit for a smart casual look.

imageThere are literally no rules anymore, you can wear trainers with anything.

My go to look would be to team white Vans with a floaty, A line midi skirt for a more feminine look or mixing up a pair of tailored trousers like these ones that I’ve just ordered from ASOS for a more androgynous take.

Pool Slides
I am loving the idea of these- the lazy girl inside can’t wait to throw these on with jeans or even a pair of tailored joggers for a cool, relaxed vibe. I did a huge ASOS order the other day and I am having serious buyer regret for removing an amazing pair of holographic Superdry slides from my basket last minute. I think I’ll be taking a peak in Primark to see if they have a similar pair, otherwise I may need to go back to ASOS!

White Sling Back Heels

These are the closest to what I want that I’ve found so far!

I’ve seen these everywhere, usually teamed with looser fitting jeans! This is a tough one as I think it can be quite a personal choice of which ones to go for, in fact I’m still looking for the perfect pair for me! I don’t want a pair with too high of a heel, and I don’t want a too narrow of a toe (I’m a practical girl, I want something that won’t pinch me after an hours wear). If I skip on any of these trends, it would probably be this one, just because I’m being so particular and I think I could swap them out for a pair of silver block heel sandals that I already own. Watch this space, I might find a pair yet!

Slip on trainers
These have been on trend for quite a while, and my old pair are looking pretty battered now, so I’m looking for an update! I’ve tried on a few, and I’ve found the most comfy pair were actually from H&M. Again, I just want something to slip on that looks super casual but also quite put together with jeans and a simple tee. I’m thinking of buying the gold pair from H&M, unfortunately the only reason I didn’t buy them in the first place was that I received such bad customer service whilst visiting the store I put them back on the shelf. They also have the same pair in a cool tropical print as well (I’m just not sure how much wear I’d get out of them).

Cut out booties

I like this pair from Carvela

I think these will look fab with floral dresses in the Summer months. I’d go for a tan pair probably, but a chunky pair of black ones would give an edgier look. Whether you go for a peep toe ankle boot or a laser cut patterned pair, I think they can act as a good pair of dressy Summer heels, and an alternative to wearing heeled sandals.

Throwback Thursday: Portugal

Throwback to when I visited Faro, Portugal with my mum in July! The image on the bottom right was taken on the stunning ‘Desert Island’.

Kate Spade SS15

When I saw that the looks from the latest Kate Spade show had been released I anticipated the usual bold and bright collection, so I must admit that I was a little disappointed when I saw that the first look was all over neutrals… where was the vibrant colour and quirkiness I knew and loved?

image

Well it’s good that I kept my faith in one of my all time favourite designers, because after that first look, things started to get a little more interesting. We saw a lovely scalloped edge detail  that made those somewhat boring neutrals way more appealing. Stripes and over sized blooms add a pop of colour, not to mention the appearance of the fuller skirts, some lined with tulle, giving each look a touch of feminine glamour.

Bold, bright colour came in the way of gorgeous forest green hues, a possible nod towards garden parties and the luscious green grass of Spring. This is when quirky accessories came into play, with flowerpots, watering cans and a snail making an appearance. And if this wasn’t enough the designer took on an under water theme, too-think crabs, goggles and a slight nod towards scuba diving via bold red hues.

Yet again Kate Spade gave us a very impressive show- perhaps that first look served as a great pallette cleanser before viewers were treated to a colourful fashion journey..

Menswear SS15: A Historical Influence on Sportswear

It seems that SS15 will bring a new dimension to sportswear for Men, with both Ancient Greek and Roman inspiration being a key influence, particularly at Versace and KTZ.

KTZ bought about a tougher edge to sportswear through black mesh, leather gloves and chunky gold jewellery, with the entire collection embodying the power of the wearer through prints of medals, mythological creatures and battle scenes. Despite the odd piece of body armour, KTZ have created an extremely wearable collection, where ancient influences of Greek Vases, sculptures and battle armour have successfully met a modern twist of basketball shorts, leather caps and statement jewellery.

Versace, unsurprisingly, took a more regal approach to the trend by using the Greek ‘key’ design in golden hues to edge loose fitting, white lounge pants. The use of all white looks were prominent during this collection, even down to the detail of models carrying pristine white and gold printed towels. The show did take an edgier turn though, where we saw models with leather bombers, shoes and bags in brightly coloured hues, which were all heavily influenced by Ancient figures that would have adorned Ancient Greek and Roman Pottery.

Menswear SS15: The Little Mermaid at MAN

After we saw it once at Gail Sorronda, The Little Mermaid continues to inspire the fashion world, and this time we have seen it for Menswear SS15 by Bobby Abley at MAN. This time around we see the likes of Ursula, Sebastian and Ariel printed on Tees and Sweatshirts, and even a cheeky appearance from Ursula’s pet eels- Flotsam and Jetsam!

Menswear SS15: Women inspiring Men

We always see some designers going for more masculine tailoring or incorporating a tomboy charm into their collections for Women, but in the more recent shows for Menswear SS15 I’ve spotted several, typically female trends, taking over the catwalks. From prints and colours to clothing and accessories there is no escaping the idea that Menswear has been influenced by many of our own, more feminine trends, and not just by one or two designers either, but a whole host of collections have hinted towards more feminine trends in some shape or form.

So, firstly you may remember that AW13/14 was the season that welcomed all of those yummy pastel shades, from lilac cashmere coats at Carven to sugary pink hues at Topshop Unique.. well that trend is about to hit menswear in a huge way for SS15. Pastel shades and candy hues are not typically associated with Menswear, a hint of it here and there perhaps, but for SS15 be prepared for head to toe pastels.

Or how about open toed boots? They’ve been around a while for women, but can this Balmain pair, inspired by 70’s sporting icons, make them just as popular with men, too?

Oh, and speaking of footwear for men, do you remember me blogging a while back about Jelly Shoes making a come back for women? Well, I’ve officially spotted them in a range of colours for men at the huntergather menswear show for SS15..

We’ve seen so many styles of bags for men on the catwalks, but how about clutch bags for men?

Pick of the day: New Sandals

I am so in love with my new flat sandals from Urban Outfitters! The little elephant studs add a really delicate, pretty touch. I have been looking for a perfect pair of sandals, and when I saw these I fell in love with the cute detailing and classic style!

Outfit of the Day: A Celine Inspired Look!

Dress: River Island (£22)
Over-sized Denim Jacket: Ebay (£9.99), originally Topshop (£40)

I love the fit of this dress from River Island, its kind of like an over sized T-shirt dress, but with a bit more of a body con fit, and I especially love that it is an amazing dupe of the Celine brush stroke print! I teamed it with bare legs and my Celine inspired slip on skater shoes, but I it looks just as good with tights (I tucked some in my handbag just in case it rained, which it did.) The dress is so versatile, I wore it casually today for a shopping trip, but it could be dressed up so easily with a pair of strappy sandals! The jacket is a bargain buy from Ebay, I’ve done a lot of purchasing on there lately (as well as on Vinted) and I’ll hopefully have a blog up soon of what I got my hands on!

Primark Bendy Rollers: A Surprising Success!

Recently I have been keeping my eyes peeled for products that will create effortless beachy waves- I haven’t got the time to mess around with curling tongs before work! At the same time I’m always a bit dubious about hair products, questioning whether they will actually work and whether they are worth the expensive price tag that come with the well known brands.

Enter Bendy Rollers from Primark:

I’ve always been a bit dubious about these too,  but as I did my usual sweep of almost every inch of Primark on payday I saw these, and on a whim I thought ‘For £1.50 I’ll give them a try’. And I am so glad that I did, because the results were very impressive, especially as they were so cheap.

2014-06-08 17.58.30

It took ten minutes before I went to bed to pop them in and I definitely wasn’t that perfect about it (I’m quite impatient with these sorts of things), the only downfall for me is that I could have done with an extra one, because my hair is quite long and of medium thickness.

And the funny part? I slept with a pair of  old tights on my head to keep them all in place as I slept! I don’t have a picture of this (lucky for you), but it is actually a top tip, just make sure you tie the ‘leg parts’ in a tight knot above your head!

Here are the results (baring in mind my hair is thick, but naturally quite straight):

And even better, they lasted pretty much all day, and when the curls did ‘drop’, they gave me a nice beachy wave 🙂

I know bendy rollers are nothing new- but for £1.50 at Primark I had to rave about how impressive they actually were! 🙂
