Coachella 2014: A few favourite looks

Love the mesh detailing and cool blue tones in this look!
Love how cool and casual this look is!
A pretty twist on the floral headpieces usually seen at festivals!
Kendall Jenner looked amazing in this all black outfit- I especially love the long, lace Kimono!
I love the off the shoulder detail- it looks so feminine with the soft crochet and neutral tones!

Obviously none of these pictures are my own (boo, I wasn’t lucky enough to attend) and all have come from various websites ūüôā

Art Attack!

From Celine’s abstract brush strokes, a rainbow palette at Chanel and colourful female portraits adorning handbags and dresses at Prada, there is no doubt about it that art inspired pieces are set to be a huge trend this Spring. The issue with such statement, artistic pieces is that it makes it difficult for the high street to imitate effectively-they might be a much cheaper option, but its not the same high quality and innovative designs as¬†those¬†Prada handbags. At¬†those designer prices, though, I think I’ll have no choice but to admire them from a distance, whilst keeping my eyes well peeled for high quality dupes. The key thing to remember when going high street for this trend is to ensure you buy items that at least look¬†high quality, because wearing artistic designs, like those on the runway, is all about luxury.

Throwback Footwear this Spring!

Anyone remember wearing jelly sandals when they were a little girl? Or how about when you got a bit older, and you looked at Birkenstock sandals with disgust?

Well, guess what? They’re both back for Spring, and they’re causing somewhat of a split between fashion fans. Can jelly shoes really look nice? Is it safe to go out in Birkenstocks without feeling as if you’ve committed a fashion faux pas? Well, although¬†I’m still not entirely convinced, seeing these throwback sandals¬†looking super cool and effortlessly chic amongst the street style elite may be starting to convince me. As usual, the high street are coming up with some great editions, so there are lots of choices to be made if you are nearly as convinced as me!

I personally prefer the White Arizona Birkenstock sandal, but they are available in lots of different prints ( like blue paisley, for the more adventurous Birkenstock fan). You’re not just limited to the real deal here though, River Island and Topshop both have great quality versions, as well! They’re actually proving really versatile, too- wear with wide leg pants, skinny jeans or dresses for a cool, casual vibe!

The jelly shoe, however, comes in a lot of on trend variations, from heeled to slingback! I must admit that I firstly thought ‘I’ll stick to black’ (they look amazing with black socks, surprising I know), but after seeing the luscious pastel shades
from Juju I am lusting after a powder pink pair! Wearing them with socks may sound a little odd- we were always told no socks with sandals- but I have to say that they look so cute with frilly white ankle socks! I love the height that a heeled pair will add to an outfit, but the slingback, flat pairs are also a great alternative to summer sandals!

What do you guys think? Are you convinced? I think I may have just convinced myself…

How to wear: Sports Luxe

I love the idea of being able to add a subtle sporty twist to my looks this Spring, and what’s great about this trend is that you don’t necessarily need to invest in a whole new wardrobe to nail it. Instead you’ll find that investing in a few sports inspired pieces can be easily mixed and matched with other items in your wardrobe, but what are the best items to invest in?

Here are a few I’m hoping to buy this SS14…

Oversized Jersey Tees

These look amazing in bold, vibrant hues (especially blues, reds, yellows and greens) giving a not so subtle nod towards the likes of American Football. I personally love this look teamed with a pair of high sandals, as it gives it a more feminine edge, but it would also look great paired with a pair of skater shoes or high tops for more of a tomboy edge!

Mesh

From a casual tee with slight mesh detailing (try tucking into a feminine pleated skirt for a great contrast), sheer paneling on a skirt or a mesh racer-back bra peeking out from under a dress, this trend is another, more subtle, nod towards traditional sportswear, if not sexier.

Skater Shoes

Okay, so let’s be honest,¬†those¬†Celine skater shoes are the reason skater shoes are even back on the fashion agenda, but luckily for my bank account the high street are full¬†of¬†Celine inspired skate shoes.. Phew!! Make sure you nail it by getting them with thick white soles, and then pick any colour (or pattern) you like- skater shoes go with almost everything. I think I’ll be opting for classic black, wearing them with some ripped boyfriend jeans!

Runner Shorts

With a slightly looser fit these shorts are a great take on ‘sports luxe’, although they are short, and not necessarily for everyday wear they are so versatile- any colour and material looks great, not forgetting you can wear them with heels or flats. For an edgier look go for black leather or a dark metallic satin pair, or for a softer touch, pastels are a perfect alternative! Another great way to wear your runner shorts is to buy a matching cropped tee or vest- co-ords always add a youthful glow to a look and will definitely sweeten up the sporty vibe.

Goodbye Hearts, Hello Polka Dots!!

After the Aw13 show from Burberry Prorsum,¬†everybody¬†was talking about, and lusting after,¬†that¬†heart print shirt. We saw numerous, more affordable, heart print blouses introduced across the high street in yummy berry shades, but as we come into Spring there is a new Burberry print in town- in the form of¬†classic polka dots. This simple print shouldn’t be underestimated, though, as it looks great paired with another clashing print (think stripes and florals) or vibrant bold colours. The high street have already come out with some fresh, youthful versions of their own-you can always rely on trusty Topshop, who have lots of brightly coloured polka dot items to choose from!

Moschino hits Milan Street Style

Well that didn’t take long did it? I knew the McDonald’s inspired accessories from Moschino’s most recent show would make for great street style, but I didn’t expect to see it quite so soon! Here are some of the looks that have been seen in Milan only a few days after¬†that¬†Moschino show that¬†everyone¬†is talking about.

CALLA at NYFW

It was only last year that designer¬†Calla Haynes first showed her collection during NYFW, and yesterday the designer was back again to show off yet another vibrant collection. Haynes is known for her strong print designs, which is why it came as no surprise to see a collection full of bold clashing prints, a nod towards ‘relaxed luxury’, as the designer herself describes her collection. The designer has managed to create a modern twist on ‘easy to wear’ fashion, by mixing quirky prints with more classic ones, like plaid and bright florals, which has led to a youthful, yet luxurious, collection. ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†

NY Fashion Week: Street Style Predictions

Okay, so we all look forward to the runway shows, but how will the heavy snow that has hit New York effect the street style of the fashion elite across the next few days? Below are a few predictions of what we can expect from street style as it prepares to fight off the bitter NY cold.

Lots of layering

The infamous ‘street style’ at NY fashion week will have to adapt to the colder weather, but don’t expect them to ‘layer up’ in a conventional way. Think oversized woolen coats on top of¬†another¬†coat, a furry vest acting as a unique take on ¬†a scarf underneath a blazer or even the doubling up of scarves.

Furry Accessories

I predict lots of furry Fendi mittens, as well as fur vests, coats, hats.. anything warm and furry to fight off the bitter NY cold and look glamorous whilst doing it.

Sweatshirts

Making a huge comeback for a great ‘I just threw this on’ look, these will definitely be on show throughout fashion week, especially those with friends at Kenzo who bag early access to their fish inspired sweatshirts, which aren’t actually available to purchase until the end of February.

Over-sized Woolen Coats

It seems obvious, I know, but despite¬†that¬†pink¬†Celine coat being huge, I actually expect a rainbow oversized woolen coats, too, because wearing that pink coat would be just too obvious, wouldn’t it?

Hunter Wellies

Maybe this is a British thing, but it wouldn’t surprise me if somebody turned up in a pair of these, especially after the brand has been given it’s own runway slot later on in the month for London Fashion Week. It¬†is¬†snowing, surely somebody will dress practically for the event?

New Season Loubs

For those NY fashion forward ladies who refuse to let the snow come between them and looking good in a pair of glossy new Louboutins. We’re likely to see the updated Pigalle, Princess or even the Louis sneaker on show over the next few days (just think glitter, pastels and vibrant hues).

Kate Spade New York SS14

If there were one Spring/Summer collection that I could easily purchase one of everything from this season it would, without a doubt, be from Kate Spade. With the pretty feminine lines and instant glamour added by bright pops of colour, metallic hues and monochromatic prints, it comes as no surprise that their message for the season is to ‘Live Color Fully’. The designers always create collections that will represent the typical ‘Kate Spade girl’ (she is said to be a playful, curious and ultra feminine), and I don’t think they could create a better collection to appeal to that kind of girl. The collection gives us ultra glamorous, playful looks for all kinds of occasions, but what stands them a part from other designers is the incorporation of youthful prints and bright colours that epitomizes the fun-loving nature of the ‘Kate Spade girl’.

I love every single look from this collection, but below are a few of my favourites!
