Surrealism: Now and Then

So, I know we were all wooed by those McDonald’s inspired Moschino pieces, and then later, by those supermarket inspired handbags (lait de coco, anyone?), but after doing my research I found that maybe such quirky pieces aren’t so original after all…
In the 1940’s designers, like Anne Marie de Paris, took the surrealist movement to the next level by creating witty and playful items inspired by unusual objects that had never been seen before. Sometimes we can get so stuck in the future when it comes to fashion, but it’s always good to know about the history of trends, too. Anyway, I thought I’d share some of these true vintage pieces with you guys, I know I was inspired, so enjoy!

Moschino hits Milan Street Style

Well that didn’t take long did it? I knew the McDonald’s inspired accessories from Moschino’s most recent show would make for great street style, but I didn’t expect to see it quite so soon! Here are some of the looks that have been seen in Milan only a few days after that Moschino show that everyone is talking about.

Moschino at MFW

Heavily influenced by McDonalds, Spongebob Squarepants, crisps and chocolate wrappers, it is safe to say that Moschino definitely put themselves back on the fashion map yesterday after Jeremy Scott debuted his first collection for the brand. I have never been so split over how I feel about a collection before, but what I do know is that I’m excited to see what Jeremy Scott will bring us next, surely it can only get more eccentric?

Whether you love or hate this collection, there is no question that it brings quirkiness from Moschino at it’s best; fun, vibrant and unexpected!

Holy Chic!

As soon as I saw these words grace the catwalks of Moschino I prepared myself for an onset of not only slogan tees, but slogan everything, across the high street for SS14! I’m thinking that the likes of Topshop, Zara and ASOS will all climb aboard this cheeky slogan trend pretty shortly, but it looks as though they’ve already started seeping into their collections…

All White Everything

White is always an amazing colour to have in your Spring/Summer wardrobe. Its crisp, bright, goes with everything and adds that little bit of class. But this season a new type of white has appeared; Head to Toe.

ImageVera Wang, 2013

I have had my eye on a head to toe all white ensemble for a very long to time. Am I gutsy enough to actually go ahead and buy one? As of yet, no. But I’ve come to realise that this trend is not actually as scary as it looks, which is why I think I might be braving it this Summer. There are so many different ways to wear this trend that no-one has an excuse to shy away! Still not inspired? Read on to see how you can wear it this summer.

WHITE ON WHITE

Feeling brave? Team white with even more white: Image

KEEPING IT NEUTRAL

Still not feeling brave enough? Try teaming an all white outfit with some off white shades like cream or go darker with tan accessories to contrast against the striking white head to toe look.

COLOUR POP

Be very careful with this one, you want to uphold the class of the all white look, so don’t go too crazy with bright colours. You could accent the white with a gorgeous teal colour in the form of a clutch bag, a chunky jewelled necklace or even some strappy sandals.

ImageOkay, so Kim K has made some questionable style choices over the last few months (being pregnant and all that) but the above is a perfect example of adding a pop of colour to an all white outfit. And a bright sunny yellow is bang on trend this season. Why not take on two trends in one go?

MAKE IT MONOCHROME

Black and white together will always be a perfect match so if you aren’t feeling quite so brave you can always add black accents to the outfit. I recommend taking inspiration from Moschino’s SS13 collection- the perfect amount of black that maintains that all white look with an added twist.
