Top 5 Shoe Trends for SS18

White Trainers
Whether you go for a pair of classic Vans or opt for the new chunkier style (designed by the likes of Yeezy and Balenciaga), trainers as everyday wear has blown up in the fashion industry in recent years and they are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Gone are the days when they could only be worn with sportswear-and white trainers for summer can really switch up an outfit for a smart casual look.

imageThere are literally no rules anymore, you can wear trainers with anything.

My go to look would be to team white Vans with a floaty, A line midi skirt for a more feminine look or mixing up a pair of tailored trousers like these ones that I’ve just ordered from ASOS for a more androgynous take.

Pool Slides
I am loving the idea of these- the lazy girl inside can’t wait to throw these on with jeans or even a pair of tailored joggers for a cool, relaxed vibe. I did a huge ASOS order the other day and I am having serious buyer regret for removing an amazing pair of holographic Superdry slides from my basket last minute. I think I’ll be taking a peak in Primark to see if they have a similar pair, otherwise I may need to go back to ASOS!

White Sling Back Heels

These are the closest to what I want that I’ve found so far!

I’ve seen these everywhere, usually teamed with looser fitting jeans! This is a tough one as I think it can be quite a personal choice of which ones to go for, in fact I’m still looking for the perfect pair for me! I don’t want a pair with too high of a heel, and I don’t want a too narrow of a toe (I’m a practical girl, I want something that won’t pinch me after an hours wear). If I skip on any of these trends, it would probably be this one, just because I’m being so particular and I think I could swap them out for a pair of silver block heel sandals that I already own. Watch this space, I might find a pair yet!

Slip on trainers
These have been on trend for quite a while, and my old pair are looking pretty battered now, so I’m looking for an update! I’ve tried on a few, and I’ve found the most comfy pair were actually from H&M. Again, I just want something to slip on that looks super casual but also quite put together with jeans and a simple tee. I’m thinking of buying the gold pair from H&M, unfortunately the only reason I didn’t buy them in the first place was that I received such bad customer service whilst visiting the store I put them back on the shelf. They also have the same pair in a cool tropical print as well (I’m just not sure how much wear I’d get out of them).

Cut out booties

I like this pair from Carvela

I think these will look fab with floral dresses in the Summer months. I’d go for a tan pair probably, but a chunky pair of black ones would give an edgier look. Whether you go for a peep toe ankle boot or a laser cut patterned pair, I think they can act as a good pair of dressy Summer heels, and an alternative to wearing heeled sandals.

How to wear: The Safari Inspired Trend

Usually my trend reports are inspired by high end designer collections that I have spied in catwalk shows, but this blog post has actually been inspired by the SS15 collection I have been eyeing at Warehouse!

So, what can you exactly expect to see from this trend?

Colours to look out for:
Ranging from beige and khaki green  for that traditional safari vibe to vibrant oranges and greens in the form of bold prints, this trend really does have a colour spectrum for everyone!

Pampas Leaf Cocoon Dress

It’s all in the details:

Fringing and tassels are seen adorning sandals, handbags and even dresses and kimonos whilst even loose cotton shorts are seen with cute little pom poms attached to the hem!
Even the fabrics echo cool safari vibes- thick fabric shopper bags are embroidered with bright ethnic prints, and as part of their holiday shop collection Warehouse have an amazing range of loose fitting cotton dresses, shorts and even wide leg trousers!

TILE PRINT SHORTS

Styles to grab now:

A part from a few mentioned above, I am absolutely loving the gypsy dress- off the shoulder, with an air of both cool and casual in light cotton materials screams safari, or at least for most of us a nice sunny holiday abroad. But let’s be honest, I’ll be wearing mine everywhere- I love dresses that can double as day and night attire.. (I will just have to wait until pay day). If you don’t fancy a dress though, why not get yourself an off the shoulder, boho style tee instead? And not forgetting the fringed kimono and poncho that have returned for another season!

Fringed Gypsy Dress

The prints:

We’ve seen how amazing just the plain brights and neutrals can look, but if you aren’t afraid of a little print then this trend is the perfect way to update your wardrobe. Think oversized African Florals for the more bold efforts, or for a more subtle approach why not try paisley or Aztec?

African Floral Midi Dress

Don’t forget to accessorize:

I’ve mentioned the beautifully embroidered selection of fabric handbags, but what about jewellery? I accept that maybe it isn’t the most practical for a real safari trek- but we are probably just playing pretend when we try out this trend. So when on the hunt for some new jewellery this Summer, why not think about layering a few necklaces together? Or if you want something a bit louder, why not try something new with chunkier ethnic bracelets, even fabric bracelets are a great alternative!

MULTI WRAP BRACELET

Spotted: The Floor Length Kimono

I absolutely loved the black, full length Kimono worn by Kendall Jenner at Coachella-it’s bought a whole new edge to what I’ll be wearing this Spring/Summer.. how great is it to have a light cover up that still adds a touch of glam to a look?

I’ve found a few great variations, so here are some for you guys to choose from.. Enjoy!

There is definitely some serious tropical summer vibes from this one! (River Island- £60).
My absolute favorite of them all- just waiting for payday to buy this beauty (Pretty Little Thing £25).

Not quite full length, but this is perfect for those who want a bit of a shorter Kimono style, and the print is gorgeous! (ASOS £32)
Ark Black Kymm Floral Long Kimono main image
This sheer black, almost floor length Kimono is bought to life through pretty floral detailing! (Ark £19.99)

(And as a side note, I found it quite annoying that River Island didn’t show the Kimonos on a model.. I assumed ‘long line’ meant around about knee length or longer, but there is no way of knowing for sure until you order it..but nevertheless they are great designs and colours, so its not all bad 😀 )

Throwback Footwear this Spring!

Anyone remember wearing jelly sandals when they were a little girl? Or how about when you got a bit older, and you looked at Birkenstock sandals with disgust?

Well, guess what? They’re both back for Spring, and they’re causing somewhat of a split between fashion fans. Can jelly shoes really look nice? Is it safe to go out in Birkenstocks without feeling as if you’ve committed a fashion faux pas? Well, although I’m still not entirely convinced, seeing these throwback sandals looking super cool and effortlessly chic amongst the street style elite may be starting to convince me. As usual, the high street are coming up with some great editions, so there are lots of choices to be made if you are nearly as convinced as me!

I personally prefer the White Arizona Birkenstock sandal, but they are available in lots of different prints ( like blue paisley, for the more adventurous Birkenstock fan). You’re not just limited to the real deal here though, River Island and Topshop both have great quality versions, as well! They’re actually proving really versatile, too- wear with wide leg pants, skinny jeans or dresses for a cool, casual vibe!

The jelly shoe, however, comes in a lot of on trend variations, from heeled to slingback! I must admit that I firstly thought ‘I’ll stick to black’ (they look amazing with black socks, surprising I know), but after seeing the luscious pastel shades
from Juju I am lusting after a powder pink pair! Wearing them with socks may sound a little odd- we were always told no socks with sandals- but I have to say that they look so cute with frilly white ankle socks! I love the height that a heeled pair will add to an outfit, but the slingback, flat pairs are also a great alternative to summer sandals!

What do you guys think? Are you convinced? I think I may have just convinced myself…

Holy Chic!

As soon as I saw these words grace the catwalks of Moschino I prepared myself for an onset of not only slogan tees, but slogan everything, across the high street for SS14! I’m thinking that the likes of Topshop, Zara and ASOS will all climb aboard this cheeky slogan trend pretty shortly, but it looks as though they’ve already started seeping into their collections…
