Top 5 Shoe Trends for SS18

White Trainers
Whether you go for a pair of classic Vans or opt for the new chunkier style (designed by the likes of Yeezy and Balenciaga), trainers as everyday wear has blown up in the fashion industry in recent years and they are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Gone are the days when they could only be worn with sportswear-and white trainers for summer can really switch up an outfit for a smart casual look.

imageThere are literally no rules anymore, you can wear trainers with anything.

My go to look would be to team white Vans with a floaty, A line midi skirt for a more feminine look or mixing up a pair of tailored trousers like these ones that I’ve just ordered from ASOS for a more androgynous take.

Pool Slides
I am loving the idea of these- the lazy girl inside can’t wait to throw these on with jeans or even a pair of tailored joggers for a cool, relaxed vibe. I did a huge ASOS order the other day and I am having serious buyer regret for removing an amazing pair of holographic Superdry slides from my basket last minute. I think I’ll be taking a peak in Primark to see if they have a similar pair, otherwise I may need to go back to ASOS!

White Sling Back Heels

These are the closest to what I want that I’ve found so far!

I’ve seen these everywhere, usually teamed with looser fitting jeans! This is a tough one as I think it can be quite a personal choice of which ones to go for, in fact I’m still looking for the perfect pair for me! I don’t want a pair with too high of a heel, and I don’t want a too narrow of a toe (I’m a practical girl, I want something that won’t pinch me after an hours wear). If I skip on any of these trends, it would probably be this one, just because I’m being so particular and I think I could swap them out for a pair of silver block heel sandals that I already own. Watch this space, I might find a pair yet!

Slip on trainers
These have been on trend for quite a while, and my old pair are looking pretty battered now, so I’m looking for an update! I’ve tried on a few, and I’ve found the most comfy pair were actually from H&M. Again, I just want something to slip on that looks super casual but also quite put together with jeans and a simple tee. I’m thinking of buying the gold pair from H&M, unfortunately the only reason I didn’t buy them in the first place was that I received such bad customer service whilst visiting the store I put them back on the shelf. They also have the same pair in a cool tropical print as well (I’m just not sure how much wear I’d get out of them).

Cut out booties

I like this pair from Carvela

I think these will look fab with floral dresses in the Summer months. I’d go for a tan pair probably, but a chunky pair of black ones would give an edgier look. Whether you go for a peep toe ankle boot or a laser cut patterned pair, I think they can act as a good pair of dressy Summer heels, and an alternative to wearing heeled sandals.

Alexa Chung resort collection

Personally I love adding a pop of colour to a look, and Alexa Chung gives food for thought on this idea in her new Resort Collection. Alexa gives us strappy checked dresses, a gorgeous layered tulle skirt and mixed prints, but the standout trend of the collection? The splashes of red in the footwear (and this emoji inspired dress )! Now, all those of us that follow fashion probably had an inkling that red boots were here to stay throughout SS18, but with it cropping up in resort collections, I’d imagine we can now expect to see them following through into AW19 as well!

MFW Milan: Smoking Jackets with a Twist

Men’s fashion week has recently begun and as I trawled through the photos from various shows so far I noticed that outerwear for men was making a huge statement- from big bold prints to oversized bomber jackets.

One big trend came from Etro; with the whole collection boasting lots of Japanese influences that included Obi belts wrapped around suit jackets and waistcoats. Not only this but the Italian fashion house also gave us a belted robe, almost similar to the traditional smoking jacket, but with a Navajo style print in luxuriously thick material. If this newer combination isn’t quite your style then those of us with a more classic style can refer to D&G, who also failed to disappoint, offering a silky, embroidered version that gave us matching suit style trousers!

London Menswear: Favourite Collections

Coach

By combining dark greens and deep berry tones with more neutral creams and rich browns, the colour pallete at Coach made this collection an instant winner for me.

Hardy Amies

Offering a mixed bag of gorgeously tailored suits, cosy cashmere coats and warm accessories in an array of colours, from dark greys and navy blues to pops of bright yellows and cobalt blue, this collection (as usual) did not disappoint.

Tom Ford

This campaign is simply stunning and is mainly why I’m so sold on this as one of my favourites, not forgetting the actual collection, of course.

Pringle of Scotland

A chunky knit layered on top of more chunky knit is a definite winner for me, especially when combined with more structured outerwear.

The Golden Globes: Best Dressed

lesliemann
Yellow made a big appearance at The Golden Globes- I love how Leslie Mann kept a simple silhouette with this Yellow dress by Kaufman Franco, but added a fun pop of emerald green in her accessories.
amy adams
I love the simplicity of this Versace gown, and the colour perfectly compliments Amy’s skin tone!
joannefrogatt
Joanne Froggatt wore a gorgeous gown by Marchesa- I love the pretty and delicate flora detailing.
katebeckinsale
Here, Kate Beckinsale wears Elie Saab- one of my all time favourite designers! With the perfect amount of glamour and simplicity, this is definitely a dress I would probably gravitate to if I was ever invited to such a huge event (I’ll keep dreaming until then..)
lupita
I love florals- and this is as floral as it gets! With floral applique layering and romantic purple tones, Lupita has done it again in the fashion stakes, this time wearing Giambattista Valli.
reese
Reese Witherspoon wowed in a simple, but glamorous dress by Calvin Klein.

Catwalk Inspired Dresses: Phase Eight

From head to toe lace, appliqué detail and heavy embellishment, we see an array of classic, intricately detailed gowns hitting runways across the globe every season. Such creations, by the likes of Alberta Ferretti, D&G and Elie Saab, to name but a few, have managed to inspire fashion around the world, regardless of the fact that they are not necessarily ground breaking, but rather breathtakingly beautiful instead.

It is, however, difficult to find such intricately detailed dresses on the high street, because, let’s face it, it will probably always remain a dream for most of us to own any of the dresses we see gracing the runways.

But, it seems we needn’t worry any more, because over the last few months I have taken a shine to British brand Phase Eight’. Every time I pass their designs I note their likeness to high end designers in excitement, from Dolce & Gabbana’s Rose print to whimsical florals at Alberta Ferretti, let alone their signature ‘tapework’ and lace detail that stands them a part from most High Street brands for their high quality occasion wear and a brilliant attention to detail.

Below are a few of my favourite pieces from their collection, which can be found online here or here, though I would recommend visiting them in store (or at Debenhams) to see the full effects of such gorgeous detailing.

This dress reminds me a lot of the ethereal feel at the AW Alberta Ferretti show

Dreaming of Gucci…

photovisi-download

Autumn is on its way and I am officially ready to begin transitioning my wardrobe.

There are many designer shows that influence me when I transition my wardrobe in between seasons, and for AW I am taking much inspiration from the 60’s edge at Gucci. Often I study shows during fashion week and I see pieces I like across the board, but it is only a few shows that will truly inspire me in their entirety, and Gucci was one of those this season.

This isn’t the first time that I am writing about the Gucci AW14-15 show, and the closer Autumn gets the more I find myself dreaming of all things Gucci…and how I can get the look at a more affordable price tag.

I find the whole 60’s vibe so endearing.
I desperately want to be a 60’s Gucci girl, with my A line leather mini skirts , knee high boots and fluffy [faux] shearling coats, and yes I want all of these in every colour.

I’m currently on the lookout for AW pieces that can give me that Gucci girl edge, so stay tuned for a ‘get the look’  Gucci post soon!
